Your program is vulnerable to using eggs from victims of human trafficking. Learn how to recognize the signs of human trafficked donors.

Many RECIPIENTS and clinics are vulnerable to egg trafficking and selling eggs from young women from developing countries that have well-documented histories of human trafficking operations. These women have been coerced, deceived, and often moved across borders because they lack sufficient safeguards to protect their well-being.

Fertility clinics like yours may unknowingly be selling the eggs of human trafficking victims as a result, and exposing the patient and your clinic to legal complications.

There are measures that can be taken to prevent human trafficking in gamete donation and ensure that your clinic only sells eggs from donors that have been safely and ethically protected.

But you have to follow these six precautions.

“From the beginning, I thought we should try to be the best, not the biggest. Our goal should be the best. And I thought it was in our long-term enlightened self-interest to do the right thing. It was never in our business interest to do the wrong thing… Keep your principles. Keep your values. Keep that in mind that should be your guiding light and if you do that, you’ll be doing the right thing.”
